Josue Joseph born April 26, 1947 in Santiago, Cuba of
Haitian parents. He came to Haiti in 1957, when his parents returned to settle
Jacmel. In 1962, he began painting under the guidance of his uncle, Alexandre
Gregoire, an established primitive artist. A rich painter, his meticulous brush
gives life to legendary leaves and flowers, that makes certain pictures look
like embroidery. His paintings are included in the permanent collections of the
Waterloo Museum of Art in Iowa, United States. Illustrations of his painting
can be seen in John Allen Franciscus’ book, “Haiti Voodoo Kingdom To Modern
Riviera”.
