Desroches, Numa (Haitian, 1802 - 1880)

Numa Desroches was born between 1800 and 1805, probably in Cap-Haitien, he would have received lessons from Richard Evans. It is not impossible, although the few works that we know of by him do not suggest any academic knowledge. After Christophe's death, he settled in Cap-Haitien as a portrait and history painter. He is also said to have painted the various buildings and monuments in the city of Cape Town and its surroundings. The painting The Palace of Sans-Souci is in the Library of the School of the Brothers of Saint Louis de Gonzague in Port-au-Prince Haiti.
